Google has released a Web 2.0 editor. Check it out. I would love to see when they use this engine on blogger.

It looks to be down... hmm. Big scoop? Got a cache of it somewhere?

hmm actually it just looks like an overglorified blogger interface. However, they are hosting everything on their servers, which is noteworthy. I guess this would appeal to people who aren't that tech savvy or dont use a blog

Damn it, sorry, last post in a row, i promise. If you go into the page manager it shows you get 100mb of disk space. I wonder if they are any bandwith limits (sincerely doubt it). My initial impression is that this beats the hell out of other free web providers laden with ads and small disk space.

Very nice. I was able to get to the editor but it would not publish my page - I was getting 404 error. Also it looks like gmail may be down as well.

I like the fact that GooglePages, unlike Newsvine, doesn't have a user agreement that removes you of your moral and economic rights as an author, yet still allows you to post whatever you like!

It's too simple, just like geocities ... But the idea counts ...

What about the spam vectors? Crawl every virtual hostname at googlepages, add "at gmail dot com" and you've got spam!

But, I am playing with it anyway. Can't beat the price...

I think it's a big improvement over geocities but it still sucks...

                Hmmmm... free load balancing:

                F:>nslookup
                Default Server: ns1.sprintlink.net
                Address: 204.117.214.10

                > crittj.googlepages.com
                Server: ns1.sprintlink.net
                204.117.214.10

                Non-authoratative answer:
                Name: googlepages.1.google.com
                Addresses: 64.233.167.93, 64.233.167.91
                Aliases: crittj.googlepages.com

Looks like a fantastic explosion of Powerpoint and Frontpage!

I won't be signing up just yet (I just don't have the time to play), but hey, the code (although not validating) looks tidy enough - at least they're trying.

Indeed, Jack Daniel has a great point. Do you at least have the option of specifying a sub-domain other than your GMail username?

If given that option, you would be taking other people's usernames.

An interesting point I was discussing earlier with zero303 - do you ever think google would give preference to their own users' pages in search results?

Looks like they've gone to limited sign-ups now. Hopefully it won't take them long to scale.

At a quick glance at least it's decent code-wise. It's not a code soup of tables and trash code, so they get kudos for that much. Unfortunately, their CSS is loaded with hacks, most of which will break when IE 7 comes out, so they'll have some back pedaling to do to fix those hacks.

That might explain why Gmail has been slow and inaccessible at times all day. I'm becoming very disappointed that Google is rolling products out too fast for their own capabilities... Same thing happened with Analytics.
